Something has shifted over the last few nights and it feels kind of ‘weird.’
It’s a loosening of sorts, a pure moment that affords incredible clarity.
I don’t judge it. I just go with it.
It happened to happen around politics but surprisingly, it wasn’t at all political ( even though a few Presidents were involved ).
There was this big hall and music blared clear and crisp from a multitude of speakers. Neil Young, Beyonce and John Mellencamp songs rolled out melodically, all happily donated and legally vetted by the artist themselves.
We listen to stories of bravery and loss and the most beautiful and heart breaking acts of simple kindness. People speak of active combat, financial struggles, personal tragedies and hard earned redemption.
Plus you learn things;
That neighbors really do double down when misfortune strikes and that IVF and body autonomy create much wanted families with kids who proudly clap for their dad at one of his biggest moments.
That healthcare and support for those who make a different personal choice must be the bedrock of all Freedoms.
That if you feed a hungry kid it promotes more concentrated learning with the possibility of release from the most crippling of all afflictions; Shame.
That acceptance and visibility is connective and your personal beliefs and life choices do not diminish mine at all.
Not one bit.
Honestly, being cynical is the worst. The worst ever. We are so bombarded by hate, and misinformation and division that our brains, let alone our hearts, cannot handle it. Cynicism at its root allows us to opt out, to eviscerate the slightest hint of joy that would facilitate our opening up to the verb of possibility.
And ultimately, that is the most dangerous thing of all.
So tonight when I found out that Tim Walz took a second job coaching his school’s 7th grade basketball team to earn extra money to pay off a student’s lunch debt, I just couldn’t be cynical a second longer. I just couldn’t.
So I gave in completely to the most radical act of all.
HOPE;
“a feeling of expectation and a desire for a certain thing to happen”
Energy always finds its way up. So does Hope.
It means you care.
It means you want to do better.
It means you’re HUMAN.
Let’s Embrace it.
